i just checked my bank account and thought i had been punked (or had my identity stolen, one or the other). what actually happened: the crazy fees for the LPC licensing paperwork were just deducted from my account. right before rent is due, of course.
i need to go watch some jersey shore or something.

this lamp is awesome yet i am still sad

tanya found it and nursed it back to health (e.g. thoroughly cleaned it) about a year ago, and now that she is moving i have had the good fortune of inheriting it.

however, the very cool lamp does NOT make up for the very sad sadness of another friend moving far away.

cut

bad news on the job front. the pre-college program for at-risk students i have been working at has been cut from the organization's budget. this is sad not only because it means i have to job hunt/interview for new jobs (the most draining of tasks, i think), but also because the population of students i have been working with will likely fall through the cracks without the structure and skills given to them in this therapeutic program. i know the decision to cut the program boils down to money, and i hate when i am faced with that (all too common) reality.

so. i have been making some cut paper collages while thinking about art and jobs and what might be next.

speaking of sweet potatoes...

i made a roasted sweet potato and chickpea dish based on a recipe over at smitten kitchen. i was supposed to use squash, but sweet potatoes were what i had in my kitchen, so sweet potatoes it was. it turned out delicious and colorful, which is all i could ask for, really.

my bedroom is now the color of the inside of a sweet potato, and i don't think i've even showed you any pictures of it yet. it looks very different depending on the light, which i think is fun.

also of note: when i moved in, my closet doors were all wonky and mismatched and uggo. now they are both white and clean and lovely, and i am much happier. because i am the sort of person to whom these things really matter.
